BOARDSTOCK 10 WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!

“Boardstock, which combines world class extreme sports athletes and music, drew an estimated 33,000 spectators to the lake, marking Konocti’s biggest weekend crowd ever,” stated the front page of Santa Rosa’s Press Democrat August 22 nd edition. The 10 th anniversary of Boardstock proved to be the biggest and the best yet, with a record-breaking number of spectators. Boardstock made its mark in Clear Lake, California with concerts, action sports demos, Centurion’s World Wake Surfing Championships, and the WWA World Series stop #3; celebrating ten years of the original West Coast wakeboarding party.

People started trickling in on Thursday afternoon as Centurion’s World Wake Surfing Championships kicked off the weekend. The hot California sun mixed with the pristine Clear Lake water gave the riders relaxing and enjoyable rides behind Centurion’s Enzo. On Thursday evening, Sugar Ray played a dinner/concert in Konocti’s Showroom. Sugar Ray started every song off with an 80’s classic and managed to slip in some comments about Boardstock and its special anniversary. The concert ended up being like a big, intimate party with everyone in the room dancing.

On Friday, the WWA World Series wakeboarding started off at 8 a.m. with slightly windy conditions, but calming down and heating up by mid-afternoon. West Coast riders such as Ricky Gonzalez, Kasen Syderhoud, and Josh Smith showed up and threw down as people started lining their boats up along the course. Off the water, Shane Trittlers’ Freestyle Motocross Death Riders including a guest appearance from Robbie Maddison drew up a huge crowd with their insane stunts -- including Maddison’s back flip -- off a large man-made jump. Later that evening, Staind and 3 Doors Down played a concert at Konocti’s amphitheatre. The concert was loaded with people and once again everyone was up and dancing, belting out the lyrics. Afterwards, the bars were packed at Konocti and people were loosening up, getting in the pool, partying on boats in the dock slips, and lingering on the patio. It literally took at least an hour to walk from one end of the resort to the other. Boardstock 10 had officially kicked off.

At 9 a.m. sharp the riders were on the dock and the Fusion Skydiving Team was launching people into the course. The wake surfing and Men’s semi-finals were underway with an estimated 1500 boats lined up along the course and people watching from the onshore patios and bleachers that created a stadium effect. Brett Eisenhauer threw a huge S-Bend and switch backroll to blind and Rusty Malinoski was exploding off the wake, throwing a switch melon mobe and a toeside nosegrab backroll to blind. After the festivities, everyone relaxed and hung out around Konocti, the full moon illuminating off the water, getting ready for the next day’s finals.

Sunday morning, the pro men put on their best show. Rusty Malinoski took first place, Daniel Watkins took second, and Brett Eisenhauer came in third. As Reliant K started playing at the amphitheatre, the awards ceremony began, honoring $7,000 to Rusty Malinoski (CAN). In wake surfing, Drew Danielo (USA) took first; Collin Harrington (USA) took second with his smooth surf style, and former champion Jamie Lovett (MEX) fell into third. After the awards ceremony, everyone made their way down to the amphitheatre to rock out during Simple Plan. To top it off, back at the bar Tim Lopes of Centurion got on stage and played guitar while everyone busted some moves on the dance floor. Boardstock was unforgettable, and here’s to another ten years!

The World Wakeboard Association would like to thank Centurion Boats, Cathy Weige from Boardstock, all the riders and sponsors.

Rob Stimmel, thank you for all of your hard work throughout the years to keep Boardstock alive, for the unforgettable memories, and for the custom edition Boardstock 10 wakeboard from Gator Boards that is proudly displayed in the WWA office.
