Lake Alfred, Florida (June 21, 2015) – The WWA Malibu Rider Experience Central kicked off this past weekend at George’s Lake in Longmont, Colorado. On a privately owned lake overlooking the Rocky mountains, the weekend gave us great weather and even better riding. Along with the weather, the water conditions were fantastic, giving us the best we have had at any event all year.
Freeride Friday was stacked with some of the top Malibu team riders who spent their day hanging out with different riders. Dallas Friday, Chad Sharpe, Brian Grubb, Jeff Langley, and Massi Piffaretti traveled to the central region to give riders the full experience for the weekend. The pros encouraged the riders to throw down their contest runs and gave helpful hints on how to improve in specific areas behind Malibu’s 22VLX. Tommy’s supplied the WWA Malibu Rider Experience Central with the top models Malibu has to offer.
For the 3rd stop of the WWA Malibu Rider Experience, we made our way to the Central Region. Open to riders from Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming. The weather was perfect, making for a great day of wakeboarding.
In the Jr. Boys Beginner division, Kaiden Powell of Kansas showed a wide mix of grabs and 180’s in his stand up run, sending him home with the 1st place award. Brett Powell of Kansas placed 1st in the Jr. Boys division throwing down stylish 180’s and even taking them backside. In the Girls division, Emily Hannum of Colorado had fun on the wake, winning 1st place in her division. Jaden Reichl of Oklahoma had a stand up run with stylish spins landing into the flats. Thatcher Hall had a run full of inverts that gave him the 2nd place award. The 3rd place award went to Jackson Kent. In the Jr. Men division, Tyler Brooks of Oklahoma took the prize with a stand up run mixed with huge spins and inverts. Tyler Sommer of Texas pulled out the technical tricks he needed to take home 2nd place. Aaron Hannum of Colorado had some stylish grabs to get him 3rd place. Blaine Evans of Colorado absolutely killed it on the water this weekend putting him on the top of the podium. Mike Vanpatten of Texas and Mathews Wilkins of Texas rounded out the podium with really close scores. Tyler Sommer of Texas did some stylish tricks on the wakeskate, awarding him with the first place trophy. Hannah York of Colorado won her division for Women’s wakesurf while Aaron Hannum of Colorado won the Men’s wakesurf division.
The Jr. Pro Men division had the best water conditions of the whole year this weekend and for the second time this year at the Regional Championships, Nic Rapa was crowned champion. Mizuki Takahashi of Japan made it on the podium in the Jr. Pro division for the first time this year, giving him the 3rd place trophy. Cobe France of Australia took a podium finish once again, showing everyone why he is one of the top riders in his division. The win gives Rapa control of the standings, but nipping at his heels is France who is only five points back with one event remaining.
Malibu Boats has one of the best wakesurf wakes out there. SurfGate Sunday wrapped up the weekend. Ronix and CWB provided all styles of wakesurfers for demo from skim style to surf style boards and everything in between. The central region brought out a nice crowd to enjoy the final day of the WWA Malibu Rider Experience Central in the beautiful state of Colorado. Seeing families and friends relaxing and hanging out on the lake together is always a perfect ending to a wakeboarding filled weekend.
Thanks to our sponsors, Malibu, Rockstar, Billabong, CWB, Ronix, and Tommy’s the weekend event was a success. The WWA Malibu Malibu Rider Experience heads to Minneapolis, Minnesota to give the riders of the East region their shot at earning an invite to the WWA National Championships in their respective region.
