Nissan Southwest Wakefest – Final Stop of the 2006 Texas Wakeboard Tour in Houston This Weekend
CONROE, Texas (September 2006 ) – The final stop of the 2006 Texas Wakeboard Tour will take place, Saturday, September 30th and Sunday October 1st, at the 3 Palms Extreme Sports Park in Conroe, Texas. The Nissan Southwest Wakefest will feature the top wakeboarders and wakeskaters from across the region competing for over $5,000 in cash and prizes in four separate divisions – Intermediate Riders, Advance Riders, Expert Riders, Outlaw (Pro) Riders and Wakeskate.
"This year, all of the competitors had to qualify by finishing in the top two in their respective divisions at select tournaments across the region." said organizer, Bill Geiger. "When it’s all said and done…we will be crowning the top riders in the Southwest!”
In addition to the wakeboard competition, the Southwest Wakefest will be hosting the final stop of the Liquid Force “Trip Across America” Slide Show. The Slide Show will also feature the top qualifiers from previous LF Slide Show events across the country and will also include a rail jam demo from some of the top Liquid Force Pro team riders including Shawn Watson, Tino Santori, Kevin Henshaw and Aaron Reed. Off the water there will be interactive sponsor displays, a vendor area, rider autograph signings, product giveaways, raffles and fun for the whole family.
In only its third year, the Texas Wakeboard Tour is well on its way to becoming the premiere series for competitors and fans throughout the Southwest. Increased support from event sponsors and strong media partnerships are helping take this grass-roots series to the next level.
Major sponsors of the Southwest Wakefest include Nissan North America, returning as the official automotive sponsor, and Malibu Boats, who will pull the competition. The series is also supported by a long list of industry sponsors including Alliance Wakeboard Magazine, Darryl Moore’s Marine, Fox Riders Co., Liquid Force Wakeboards, Body Glove, Reef, Spy Optic, Ten 80 Clothing, Kicker Audio, Da Hui Clothing, Lucky Devil Designs, Sun & Ski Sports, H20 Clothing and TBKS.
"There’s a lot of talent coming out of Texas right now, both wakeboarders and wakeskaters," Geiger said. "Several riders who competed in the Texas Tour last year are now competing nationally on the Pro Tour and there is a host of other regional riders who are good enough to join them!"
Gates open to the public at 8 a.m. with action getting underway at 9 a.m. 3 Palms Extreme Sports park is located on the west side of I-45 at the 1488 exit between The Woodlands and Conroe.
