Finals
of Canadian Pro Wakeboard Tour Event Has International Outcome
Kelowna,
British Columbia (July 10, 2005) - Fittingly for the only
MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour event outside the United States,
the Pro
Wakeboard Tour's stop at Telus Wakefest presented by Coors Light
in Kelowna,
BC Canada was decided by riders from outside the United States.
After the
surface of Lake Okanagan had settled in Kelowna, Australian
Daniel
Watkins had taken home his first victory of 2005 in the Pro
Men's division,
outlasting fellow Aussie Josh Sanders in the head-to-head final.
Canadian
Chad Sharpe finished third and another Aussie, Brett Eisenhauer
took fourth
place on Sunday.
The victory
for Watkins was his second career Pro Wakeboard Tour victory,
and moved Watkins (340 points) into second place in the Indmar
Pro Wakeboard
Tour season standings and second place in the KING OF WAKE world
rankings.
Sanders (350) who finished second held onto his NO. 1 World
ranking but only
by 10 points over Watkins.
With only
one event left in the 2005 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour season,
international riders hold four of the top five spots in the
Indmar Pro Tour
season standings. No rider born outside the United States has
ever won a Pro
Wakeboard Tour season title.
Sharpe (310
points), who is from Cloverdale, BC is only 40 points behind
Sanders in the standings after his third place finish in Kelowna.
Both
Sharpe and Phillip Soven are tied for third place in the standings
with 310
points. Aussie Eisenhauer is in fifth place with 300 points.
The final
event of the 2005 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will take place
at Blue Lake Park in Portland, Oregon July 30-31.
While the
Pro Men's division was the biggest event of the day, there was
still plenty of action in Kelowna. Before the Pro Men's final
the SeaDoo
watercraft Pro Wakeskate Series was decided with Brian Grubb
winning for the
first time in 2005. Grubb is a former SeaDoo watercraft Pro
Wakeskate series
champion as well as a Pro Wakeskate World and National Champion.
George
Daniels took second place on the day and Brandon Thomas and
Phillip Basino
finished in a tie for third place.
The victory
for Grubb put him into second place in the SeaDoo season
standings with Thomas holding onto first place and Daniels moving
into third
place.
In the amateur
ranks of the MasterCraft Junior Men's X Series it was Danny
Thollander winning his first event of 2005. Daniel Walden and
Rhett Whatley
finished in second and third respectively behind Thollander.
Good news
for Canadian Aaron Rathy who was leading the Junior X Series
coming into the Kelowna event. Rathy held onto his lead in the
season points
standings, but is now tied with American Philip Combs with 335
points.
