Rider Experience – West Takes Over Mossdale Quarry Lakes

From Mossdale Quarry Lakes, CA (June 22, 2014) — Going down as one of the best Rider Experience events to date, over 40 riders stormed into Mossdale Quarry Lakes just south of Stockton, California on June 20-22, 2014. Malibu Pro Team riders Oli Derome, Chad Sharpe, Brian Grubb, Jeff Langley, and Amber Wing set the vibe all weekend, while getting first-timers up on the water and teaching Junior Pros how to link their contest runs together.

Wakeboarding’s new “Backroll Badboy,” (a.k.a. “Noise of the North,” a.k.a. “Dano the Mano”) set a new standard for Freeride Fridays by claiming and backing up his claim of, “I’m going to learn a back roll today”. Dano stuck his third attempt with pointers from Chad and Grubb. Feeding off Dano’s nonstop energy, other riders absolutely destroyed the wake behind the Malibu WAKESETTER 22 MXZ until the last minute of daylight.

On day two, wakeboarders and wakesurfers had their game faces on, because the WWA West Regional Championships were on the line. Malibu’s 22 MXZ and 23 LSV were locked, loaded and serving up a massive wake for riders to reach their fullest potential. The young guns in the Girls and Boys (10-13) divisions kicked off the morning, followed up by a talented group of Jr. Women’s and Jr. Men riders including the Dinatale sisters, Birch brothers and Higham brothers.

The Jr. Pro Men riders hit the water for the semifinal round with the top three in each heat advancing through to the finals. Parker Siegele took the top spot in heat one followed by Juan Mendez (USA) and Tyler Higham (USA). Heat two featured Jamie McCauley (USA) on top followed by Cory Teunissen (AUS) and Mac Schramm (USA), making through to the finals. The wake was totally dialed on the 22 MXZ with Jeff Langley behind the wheel for the six-man final. For the overall rankings, it could be anyone’s game. Juan Mendez and Cory Teunissen came out swinging, but each had an unfortunate fall. Parker Siegele (AUS) stood up under pressure with an array of 540 mobes and heavy spins to take the top spot.

The weekend came to a close in tradition, with SURF GATE Sunday. Lots of the new West Regional Champs came out for a celebratory wakesurf and to hang out with the Malibu Pro Team. Several newbies learned how to wakesurf for the first time and everybody enjoyed the ability to transfer side-to-side with the latest SURF GATE technology.
