FERREIRA DO ZEZERE, Portugal (June 10, 2016) – Today, the Nautique European Pro Am presented by Rockstar Energy hosted the first of three days scheduled for this weekend’s event at one of Portugal’s most beautiful destinations, the water at Castelo do Bode. This weekend’s beautiful landscape is set to host Wakeboarding’s brightest stars and will serve as the third round of the Nautique Wake Series, along with the second round of the Wakeboard World Series (WBWS). The Nautique European Pro Am brings amateurs and pros from around the world together to showcase their skills behind the legendary Super Air Nautique G23. This premier event will include all amateur divisions, Jr. Pro Men, Pro Women, Pro Wakeskate and Pro Men.
Jr. Pro Men’s Quarterfinals boasted a talented roster that provided plenty of big air tricks during their runs. Cobe France (AUS) relied on his silky smooth style to lead the way on day one, followed by Lewy Watt (AUS) and Elliot Digney (AUS). The Jr. Pro Men’s division will resume tomorrow with Semifinals and wrap up on Sunday with their Final runs.
“Today was a great start to the weekend here at the Nautique European Pro Am,” said Andre Matos, Nautique European Pro Am Organizer. “The facility here in Portugal is located in an amazing destination and the wake was perfect behind the Super Air Nautique G23.
The Men’s II (25-29) Semifinals had the crowd on the edge of their seats as they battled toe-to-toe for the bragging rights before heading into Saturday’s Finals. In the end, Sascha Gattiker (SUI) outdueled the competition to grab the top spot, followed closely by Jimmy Perridet (SUI).
Mark Goldsmith (GBR) put in the best run of the day in the Veterans Semifinals with a score of 68.33, narrowly edging out Senen Perez (SPN). The Masters Semifinals were nothing short of impressive, as Samuel Lutz (SUI) wasted no time pulling out huge tricks and setting the bar high for the remainder of the weekend.
Boy’s Beginner division started their weekend off with qualifying runs in the Semifinals, ultimately leading the way were Luis Gama Rocha (PRT) and Ronalds Gulbis (LAT). Thanks to the innovative technology on the Super Air Nautique G23, the riders continue their progression towards taking the next step as they head into this weekends Final showdown.
In the Adaptive Standing semifinals, Renato Bosch (PRT) lead the way by landing a variety of technical tricks, recording an impressive run during the events opening day of competition. Meanwhile in the Master’s Women Semifinals, Helen Carroll (GBR) threw down a strong run to secure the top position.
The second day of the Nautique European Pro Am is set to kick off at 10:30a.m. on Saturday, June 11, beginning with Amateur Finals and wrapping up with the Pro Men Quarterfinals and Pro Women Semifinals.
