The Malibu Boats Cancun Pro Presented by Rockstar Gets Under Way from Mexico

Lake Alfred, Fla. (April 25, 2015) – The opening round of the Malibu Evolution Pro Series was in full swing Saturday in Puerto Cancun, Mexico with qualifying for the second stop of the WWA Wakeboard World Series behind the Malibu Boats Wakesetter 22 MXZ. The Pro Men’s quarter finals saw Rusty Malinoski, Josh Twelker, and Tony Carroll lead the stacked field into the semifinal round, each taking a win in their quarter final heat. Nicola Butler, Raimi Merritt, and Taylor McCullough took the top ranks in Pro Women to set the field for Sunday’s finals.

In what the riders have dubbed a “wake-cation”, the competition was fierce in the windy waters of Puerto Cancun as riders fought for their spot in the final round of the Malibu Cancun Pro. With the top six Wakeboard World Series riders seated to Sunday’s semi final round, another six Pro Men will join them for the 15-man round. Dominating the wake off the Malibu Wakesetter 22 MXZ was Twelker who stomped his run to score an 89.00. Advancing behind him was Steel Lafferty, Malinoski, Carroll, Damian Adam and Massi Piffaretti.

The Pro Women final round was set with the top two riders advancing through Saturday’s semi finals. McCullough led the way with a stand-up run in the wind-chopped waters followed by Merritt, Butler, Dallas Friday, Larisa Morales and Tarah Mikacich. Mexico native Morales was especially excited to make it to the final round in front of the Mexican media and fans in attendance.

Sunday’s action will kick off with the semi final round of Pro Men before progressing into the Pro Women and Pro Men finals, all behind the Malibu Wakesetter 22 MXZ.
