Wakestock Announces New Location for WWA World Series Stop #2

Wakestock has announced its new location at Long Pond, Toronto Islands, August 11-14, 2005. This will be Wakestock’s 8th annual festival, packed with four days of wakeboarding and action sports.
“We considered several new, larger locations to keep up with Wakestock’s growth as a world leading event, and with Toronto Islands we’ve found the ideal match,” said Wakestock spokesperson Steve Jarrett.
Toronto is a world class tourist destination that offers abundant accommodation, easy access and unlimited entertainment. It’s fitting to have Wakestock as the World Wakeboard Association’s second World Series event in the heart of Toronto. The Toronto Islands are a mix of park and beach layouts with a premiere wakeboarding course offering perfect water and spectating from any spot.
The Wakestock festival will include daytime concerts featuring 30 bands over 3 days, including Goldfinger, The Dead Kennedy's, and The Black Maria. There will also be pro skateboarding and freestyle motocross, an action sports consumer expo, film premieres, the Miss Reef Canada bikini contest, and nightly entertainment in Toronto’s clubs. Aside from the best wakeboarders competing at this WWA World Series stop, amateur wakeboarding and skateboarding will be available too.
Last year's Wakestock Rail Champion, Shane Bonifay said: “If you win Wakestock, you’ve pretty much got the title for ‘best slider’. It’s such a hard and technical course, if you win that, you get respect from everyone!”
Commenting on the new Wakestock location, top 10 pro Keith Lidberg said, “It’s the best event of the year! They moved the location and it’s expected to bring a lot of people. Pat Panakos has been working on rails for five years—that’s the best part of the event, the rails. It’s nice because we get to go out there early and help build them. And to be able to wakeboard in front of that many people? It’s such a great feeling.”
Panakos stated in SBC Wakeboard Magazine, “It’s turning into more than a contest; it’s a festival of our sport…Usually people want to hold back and make sure they get through the semis and finals. A lot of riders didn’t care so much about their whole run as long as they were busting out one or two huge tricks. There’s almost a spirit to the contest where all the riders just want to go out and bust something big.”
Wakestock is expected to attract up to 20,000 enthusiasts per day and is supported by Malibu Boats, the official towboat, Sun & Ski Marine, Billabong, Reef, Coors Light, The Extreme Music Series, and SBC Wakeboard Magazine.
