Orlando, Fla. — Fans lined the shores of the Orlando Watersports Complex today to catch the final rounds of action at the 2011 Nautique Wake Games, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. As the 10 remaining divisions wrapped up their competition on the water, Team Malinoski emerged as the winner of this year’s team challenge with 801 points.

Captained by pro rider Rusty Malinoski, the 10-person team claimed this year’s cash prize after finishing with multiple top-three finishes in various divisions, including wins by Kat Laird in the Veteran Women’s division and also by newly signed Rockstar Energy Drink team rider Daniel Powers in the Jr. Pro Men’s division. The team consisted of Malinoski, Powers, Laird, Shaun Murray, Scott Stewart, Danny Hampson, Megan Ethell, Will Green, Craig Buss and Dustin Abel.

Malinoski also came close to winning the Pro Men’s division today, too, but ultimately fell short to teenage Australian phenom Harley Clifford, who took home his second consecutive Pro Men’s division title. Malinoski and Bob Soven rounded out the top three, respectively.

Clifford also won the $1,000 prize in the Rockstar Energy Drink Double Up Contest, after landing a Melon Poke Heelside Frontside 900.

Newly signed Rockstar Energy Drink team rider and fellow Australian wakeboarder Amber Wing took first place in the Pro Women’s division, upsetting top-seeded Nicola Butler, who finished in third place. Young gun Meagan Ethell rounded out the top three podium spots, with her second-place finish.

In the Pro Wakeskate division, defending Wake Games shredder and newly signed Rockstar Energy Drink team rider Reed Hansen successfully defended his title today, with Danny Hampson and Brian Grubb rounded out the top three, respectively.

Also making waves out on the water today was local wakeboarder Jason Soven, who won the Boys division today, as well as the PCM Amateur Best Trick Award, after landing a massive Dum Dum. Jason is the younger brother of pro riders Phillip and Bob Soven.

The four-day-long pro-am contest teams amateur wake athletes with the top professional riders in the sport.

Ten preselected team captains will host a live draft to field a team with a mix of male and female, pro and amateur riders. Each athlete will compete in their respective division, which is separated by age and skill level, while contributing points toward a team score based on their individual placement in that division. All 21 divisions will crown a winner, and the team with the highest total score will take home the team title.

The Nautique Wake Games, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will host qualifying rounds during its first two days of action, before the 10 captains draft their teams on Friday evening, April 29. Teams will begin accumulating points on Saturday and continue through Sunday, when a winning team will be determined.

Last year, Jimmy LaRiche was declared the winning captain of the 2010 Wake Games, with a team score of 757 points.

In addition to all the action on the water, the Nautique Wake Games features great food and music, athlete autograph signings, chances to win freebies, and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores offering water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions.

Tickets are available at the gate: $13 (adult); $5 (ages 6-12); free (ages 5 and under), or $7 (adult) if purchased online.
