Advancing to the semifinals were Piper Harris (OWC), Mattie Armer (Term), Lisa DeRue (Rose), Kyra Marks (Action), Kalie Thomas (OWC), Sofia Monroy (Mayan), Shannon Stuckey (OWC), and Amanda Sadowski (OWC).

(June 25, 2018) –Known as two of the biggest innovators across the history of wake sports, always putting the athletes first, Nautique Boats and The World Wake Association(WWA) have partnered to change the world of wakesurfing. The two companies will evolve the competitive side of the sport to a new level beginning with the 2018 Nautique USA National Wakesurf Championships towed exclusively behind the 4x Wakesurf Boat of the Year, the Super Air Nautique G23.

The Nautique USA National Wakesurf Championships will be the premier, family-oriented wakesurfing event that will take place on September 28th – 30th, 2018 in downtown Waco, Texas on the Brazos River. This event has a place for surfers of all ages and ability levels come together. Nautique Boats and WWA have worked with an exclusive panel of wakesurfing’s top athletes and officials to create the next generation of competitive wakesurfing format, judging criteria, and divisions. Athletes will compete in a rider-developed format that rewards the uniqueness of both skim and surf styles equally in the amateur and pro divisions alike.

“As a guy who has been in competitive wakesurfing since it started, this new format and approach is a breath of fresh air! It’s no longer how many tricks can you jam into a run but how well and stylish are you executing tricks,” commented Nautique team rider, Drew Danielo. “All this behind the Nautique G23 with a wave that has the best shape, size and versatility, this is bound to a great event!” Check out the new format here: https://www.thewwa.com/wwa-wakesurf-format/

New Format Outline

The first in wake sports to use heats, the WWA will introduce a proven heat system at the 2018 Nautique USA National Wakesurf Championships, creating a more defined placement and advancement system for the athletes. Surfers will be seeded based on the 2017 Nautique USA Wakesurf National Championship event.

“From grass roots to the professional level, we are taking the much-needed steps to continue growth and progression, at a defining time in the sport of wakesurfing,” said WWA President Shannon Starling. “We’ve created a format that we feel really rewards powerful, clean, well-executed tricks, which will allow flow and creativity to emerge, and divisions that allow all athletes from first-time to seasoned surfers, a place that is competitive and fun.”

Nautique and its fellow sponsors will host participants for a BSR beach party Saturday night from 6 to 9 PM.
