ORLANDO (April 21, 2016) – Today, the Nautique Wake Open presented by Rockstar Energy hosted the first of four days scheduled for this weekend’s event at the world-famous Orlando Watersports Complex (OWC). This weekend the sport’s brightest stars are set to kick off the opening round of the Wakeboarding World Series (WBWS) and second stop of the Nautique Wake Series, the only series that puts riders first.

Pro Men’s qualifying is underway, featuring elite Nautique athletes, such as Mike Dowdy, Bob Soven, and JD Webb to name a few. This season is arguably the deepest field in the history of the sport, which is destined to provide intense action beginning in qualifying and carrying on into the finals.

“It’s always good to come out and win the first heat of the season,” said Team Nautique Rider Bob Soven (USA). “The conditions were pretty challenging today with the wind blowing right down the center of the course at 15+ mph, but the G23’s wake stayed clean and allowed everyone to still put their best tricks forward.”

The Pro Women’s division started the day off with their quarterfinals, ultimately leading the way were Nicola Butler (USA) and Larisa Morales (MEX). Thanks to the innovative technology on the Super Air Nautique G23, the women continue their progression towards raising the bar yet again for this weekend’s finals showdown.

“Today was an exciting first day at the Nautique Wake Open with a full lineup of Pro Women competing,” said Team Nautique Rider Meagan Ethell (USA). “The conditions were a little rough, but I was able to adjust and put in a consistent run to advance to the semifinals. My plan this weekend is to have fun, lay down a solid run and earn a spot in the finals.”

In the Adaptive Sitboarding semifinals, Connor Poggetto (USA) displayed flashes of brilliance as he lead the way, while Nathan Smith (AUS) laid down an impressive run to claim the runner-up position.

Guenther Oka (USA) put in the best run of the day in the Jr. Pro Men’s quarterfinals with a 79.33, narrowly edging out James Loisel’s 78.67 (USA). The Master’s semifinals watched Joel Schrader (USA) go big to grab the upper hand heading into the finals.

The second day of the Nautique Wake Open is set to kick off at 10AM on Friday, April 22, which will include Pro Wakeskate and Amateur and Junior Qualifying.

LAKE ALFRED, Fla. March 29, 2016 – The 2016 Malibu WWA Rider Experience Launches on the West Coast at Lake Las Vegas, where the glitz and glamour from the Vegas strip transforms to the water in Henderson, Nevada on May 13-15. The three-day event will serve as the industry leader in hosting elite athletes in amateur competition, as well as an educational opportunity for riders competing at any level to learn from the best in the sport. Malibu’s WWA Rider Experience will coincide as the West Regional Championship to qualify riders for the 2016 WWA Wakeboard National Championship.

The Rider Experience is a family oriented event that provides plenty of excitement throughout the weekend, such as Freeride Friday, Judge’s Experience, and the chance to surf behind Malibu’s Wakesetter on Surf Gate Sunday. Last year’s Rider Experience West in Canyon Lake, Arizona witnessed more than 50 riders on hand to showcase their skills throughout the weekend, which included Australia’s Nic Rapa claiming the win in Jr. Pro Men and USA’s Alyssa Williams in the Junior Women’s division.

The four-day-long pro-am contest teams amateur wake athletes with the top professional riders in the sport.

Ten preselected team captains will host a live draft to field a team with a mix of male and female, pro and amateur riders. All 21 divisions will crown a winner, and the team with the highest total score will take home the team title.

The Nautique Wake Games, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will host qualifying rounds during its first two days of action, before the 10 captains draft their teams on Friday evening, April 29. Teams will begin accumulating points on Saturday and continue through Sunday, when a winning team will be determined.

Last year, Jimmy LaRiche was declared the winning captain of the 2010 Wake Games, with a team score of 757 points.

Lake Alfred, FL (February 14, 2011) – In its 22nd year as the premier wakeboard association, The World Wakeboard Association is honored to announce the schedule for the 2011 WWA Wakeboard World Series; the four stop wakeboard series sets its eyes on Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and USA. Wakeboarders from around the World will have the opportunity to knock-off the four-time defending World Series Overall Champion, Phil Soven, while being towed behind the best boats with the biggest wakes on the slickest water in the world. 2nd and 3rd place finishers, Trevor Hansen and Andrew Adkison, topped the year off with a bang as they secured podium placements; meanwhile, late season injuries kept top contenders JD Webb, Aaron Rathy, and the reigning Rockstar WWA Wakeboard World Champion, Dean Smith, from competing in the final stop. So the question remains… Can Soven continue his WWA Wakeboard World Series overall dominance in 2011?

From Lake Alfred, FL. The World Wakeboard Association is proud to announce the debut of two new divisions, which include Adaptive Standing and Adaptive Sit-Boarding, at the 2011 Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships and the 2011 Rockstar WWA Wakeboard World Championships Presented by Supra.

If you are wondering what adaptive means, WWA President Shannon Starling explains: “The adaptive divisions are modifying current wakeboarding so that more athletes can compete. The divisions allow individuals with limb loss and limb difference the opportunity to get out on the water, compete, and have fun!”

Adaptive Sports use specially designed technology so that persons with a disability are able to participate. In Wakeboarding the use of prosthetic limbs, specially designed boots, handles, and integrated chair-wakeboards are used to allow maximum advantage to the athlete.

“The capability of what each athlete is able to do is simply amazing,” says Starling, “At the WWA our goal is for everyone to Wakeboard.”

The 2011 WWA Wakeboard Nationals and 2011 WWA Wakeboard Worlds will incorporate, separately, an Adaptive Standing Division and Adaptive Sit-Boarding Division. Using the latest adaptive technology, these athletes will be judged by a panel of hand-picked professional wakeboarders. Each division will focus on sportsmanship and companionship as the athletes amaze the spectators behind the best boats in the water.
