MONROE, WA (July 24, 2018)– Headed to the Pacific Northwest, this week kicks off one of the most important Wakeboard World Series (WBWS) events […]

MONROE, WA (July 24, 2018)– Headed to the Pacific Northwest, this week kicks off one of the most important Wakeboard World Series (WBWS) events of the season with the 2018 Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships presented by Rockstar Energy. Pulled by the 5x Wakeboard and 4x Wakesurf boat of the year the Super Air Nautique G23, this event could be a turning point in the WWA Wakeboard World Series rankings. A look on social media proves the progressive movement continues to gain speed post Stop #4 in Knoxville, TN with the top ten riders in both divisions hitting new tricks and not being afraid to show it.

As we sit today, there is a 60-point spread among the top four ranked riders on the Men’s WWA Wakeboard World Series with only one remaining event after the Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships, WBWS Stop #5. With the final stop, the 2018 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships just over thirty days away, the riders know there is now no place for playing it safe.

A shuffling in the rankings took place in Knoxville, TN, as Tony Iacconi moved up one spot into 4thranked position after his third place podium finish, solidifying 295 points on the WBWS overall rankings. The WBWS 3rdranked rider, Cory Teunissen put on a huge show so far this season putting up some massive double cab rolls, riding on the heels of Nic Rapa in second place.

Nic Rapa came away with his second Factory Pro title gaining valuable ground in the rankings, however, his final score wasn’t quite enough to take thetop spot on the leaderboard. Sitting in the top spot on the WBWS rankings, Harley Clifford remains focused as he heads to the WWA Wakeboard National Championships, an event he has claimed multiple Nationals Titles. Despite his second place finish at the Factory Pro and with Rapa only 20 points behind Clifford on the rankings, the pressure remains to perform to his full potential.

The Women have been absolutely charging it this season and the shuffling of the overall rankings in Knoxville can speak to it. Jamie Lopina torched the fire at the Factory Pro, throwing down the only crowmobe seen in the Women’s final. This performance moved Lopina up two spots on the leaderboard heading to Washington with a solid 5thspot on the WBWS rankings. Dallas Friday, known for her clean tricks and signature style sits 4thon the rankings, just 30 points short of Zahra Kell holding down the 3rdranked spot.

Going into the Factory Pro a few weeks back, Meagan Ethell was a mere 5 points behind Nicola Butler with the two going head to head, proving to the fans that women do in fact run the world. Ethell’s win sent her into 1stplace on the rankings as the reigning WWA Wakeboard National Champion looks toward another National Title this week.

The ranking’s shakeups prove that with two stops to go, the race for the Title is far from over, setting the stage for a showdown at Lake Tye Park at the 2018 Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships. Stay tuned all week long for updates from the heartbeat of the sport with athletes from around the globe focused on driving progression.

Boise, ID (July, 9, 2018) – Exploring the foothills and surrounding beauty of Idaho, the Malibu WWA Rider Experience West was an unforgettable weekend. Hosted by Idaho Watersports, the wake community converged on the pristine waters of Broadside Harbor Ski Lakes for Freeride Friday along with Malibu pro athletes in preparation for the Malibu WWA Regional Championships West. The first blind athlete to compete in the history of the World Wake Association (WWA) hit the waters alongside contest veterans and other first-time competitors on Saturday. Closing out a fantastic weekend on the water, the stoke was at an all-time high for Surfgate Sunday with another gorgeous day to match the perfection of Malibu’s endless waves.

“We had an amazing weekend for our first time in Boise, Idaho and are excited about all the new faces and families we were able to share the weekend with. We saw an incredible field of amateurs, paired with many firsts and lots of smiles that lasted all weekend long. It’s events like the Malibu Rider Experiences that remind us of why we do what we do, said WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson.

The WWA Regional Championships West represented what wake is all about with riders experiencing competition for the first time, making the starting dock a party to meet new friends and future champions. Broadside Harbor Ski Lakes played the perfect host to all the action, creating an amazing atmosphere paired with perfect conditions all weekend long.

Scott Leason (USA) broke wake history as the first blind competitor to compete in a WWA contest. Leason earned his first-place finish with a half cab and linking all different 180’s for a score of 80.00 in the Adaptive Standing division. In addition to wakeboarding, Leason is also a champion blind surfer, water-skier, and Ironman competitor in the U.S.

Jr. Pro Men’s rider Luca Kidd (GBR) took his third Jr. Pro win of the year with a massive nose grab crowmobe 540, completing a final score of 83.33. Kevin Duffy (USA) scored 77.67 with some stylish riding that included a nose grab heel 7 and a H/S B/S 7. Jake Hill (USA) rounded out the podium in third with 68.33 points sticking a huge stalefish roll to blind. Elle Christensen (USA) and Zoe Luquette (USA) put on a show for the crowd in the battle for the Junior Women division gold. Christensen took the win with two passes full of inverts to score 86.67. Luquette landed her first ever T/S front roll to earn a second-place score of 70.00.

Surfgate Sunday provided riders and families with an incredible time shredding behind Malibu’s amazing 24 MXZ on the newest Ronix Wake products. New surfers were hooked, getting first-class instruction from Malibu Pro riders along with some local shredders who dialed in some big tricks. The Malibu WWA Rider Experience heads North to Detroit, MI July 14 – 16 for the fourth stop of the world’s most popular rider development series. Hosted by our friends at Stateamind Water Sports and Iguana Boat Sales, this year’s Rider Experience Central brought all ages together to ride, surf, and compete for three days in this watersports haven. Pulled behind Malibu’s world-class 24 MXZ, the region’s best showed up to compete for Pro Cards, qualify for Nationals, and practice with Malibu Pro riders Tarah Mikacich, Jeff Langley, Oli Derome, Lewy Watt, and Parker Siegele.

The event kicked off with Freeride Friday as a day to learn the basics, practice a competition pass, and feel out the waters. Malibu athletes were there to offer tips and tricks to riders of all skill levels along the way.

The Malibu WWA Regional Championships Central began on Saturday morning with divisions including all amateur divisions, Jr. Pro, and wakesurfing, plus the Malibu Pro Card Qualifier #2. This casual competition had high stakes for some competitors, with Pro Cards and National qualifiers on the line. Parents and fans kept the energy high on shore, with hype provided by Malibu Boats, Rockstar Energy, Ronix Wakeboards, Best Flag, Stateamind Water Sports, and Iguana Boat Sales.

Stella Tracy (OK) started the day off strong winning the Jr. Girls with heelside and toeside one wake jumps, earning a 53.33. For the Girls division, first time competitor Gracie Retzlaff (IN) took home the gold medal. Gavin Doody (TX) won gold for the Jr. Boys Beginner division with a heelside 180 and a well-executed half cab wake to wake scoring a 81.67.

The Boys division showcased true progression and fun competition in the Central region, despite less than ideal water conditions. Brett Powell (KS) took first with a cab 360 followed by a backside 360, plus a heelside 720 in the second pass yielding an impressive 85.00. Beaux Wildman (IN) came in next with a 65.67 and Barrett Swope (TX) in third with a 61.00. For Jr. Men, Dylan Sexton’s (LA) clean heelside 540 and tantrum to fakie resulted in a winning score of 61.67. Parker Swope (TX) finished in second with a 57.67 throwing down a mute cab 360, and Austin Schram (WI) close behind with a 54.67.

Local favorite, Kirby Liesmann (USA), scored a clean 75.00 behind the Malibu M235 to punch his 2018 Malibu Pro Card.

Also behind the Malibu M235, and the most anticipated finals of the day, Jr. Pro Men delivered seamless runs with impressive execution. Luca Kidd (GBR), the current Malibu Jr. Pro Series leader, came out on top with a steezy nose grab backside 540 and a nose grab crowmobe scoring an overall 84.00. Bryce Grey (AUS) cut through bumpy waters and followed for second place with a huge roll to blind scoring a 79.33, and Kevin Duffy (USA) in third with a 76.33.

The Men’s Wakesurf division took full advantage of all the massive Malibu 24 MXZ wave had to offer on Saturday. Beaux Wildman (IN) earned a nearly perfect 94.00 with his 360 shove it and big air. Missouri-local Bobby Sutherland (MO) trailed with an 80.00 and Graham McGarvey (IN) with a 63.33. In the women’s division, Stella Tracy (OK) pumped and carved her way to first place with a score of 90.33. Abi Davis (IL) brought in second place for the women with a final score of 71.33. As the lone wakeskater of the day, Gavin Doody (TX) finished first with surface spins for days and a score of 90.00.

Sunday brought a more relaxed atmosphere to the lake for Surf Gate Sunday. Malibu offered the opportunity for anyone, child or adult, to ride the legendary wave behind the Malibu 24 MXZ, M235, and Axis Wake Research A24.

“It was an all-around great weekend here on the Lake of the Ozarks with riders from all over the Central region,” said WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson. “The event really encompassed all that we strive for with Rider Experience. We saw it all, from new stoked riders getting pulled for the first time to heated competition in the Jr. Pro division. This is what we’re all about, making it a very memorable Rider Experience weekend.”

As the second stop of the Malibu Rider Experience, Central riders brought the heat and upped the regional competition. As a weekend full of fun and progression, many are heading home with smiles, titles, and new skills. The next stop is in Caldwell, Idaho July 6-8 for the Malibu Rider Experience West.
The World Wakeboard Association (WWA) is naming the Extremity Games (eXG) as a qualifier for the new Adaptive Standing and Adaptive Sit-Boarding Divisions for the 2011 Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships. Extremity Games, which is set to take place June 24-25 at Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas, is an extreme sports competition for individuals living with limb loss or limb difference.
“The WWA is looking forward to our new partnership with Extremity Games and expanding our divisions at the 2011 Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships,” comments WWA President Shannon Starling, “The level of wakeboarding that the riders in both of our two new adaptive divisions are able to accomplish is fascinating.”

“We look forward to providing the opportunity for adaptive athletes to compete at the next level,” says Beth Taylor, Executive Director of Athletes with Disabilities Network, organizers of Extremity Games, “While you can brace a limb or replace a limb, there is no replacement for the competitive spirit.
The WWA Monster Energy Triple Crown series concluded September 18th at Wake Nation in Cincinnati, OH. While it seemed Tom Fooshee would sweep everything after dominating the previous stops at Texas Ski Ranch and Kansas City Watersports, the final event had a surprise in store. It was Lior Sofer, all the way from Israel, who would be the first rider to dethrone Fooshee of the summer, and take home top honors.

It was Lior’s smooth and powerful air tricks, including a Raley 5, crow 5, front mobe and a backside 7 off the kicker that helped him move past Tom in the head-to-head semi final. Lior met another titan, Keith Lidberg, in the final heat, but after Keith wasn’t able to put together a perfect run, Lior earned the first victory of his wakeboard career and the US Cable National Championship title.

“Amazing,” Lior said, having trouble putting his emotions into words. “It’s an amazing feeling winning my first place in 5 years [of competing]. I’ve never been in this position don’t know what to say. Thanks to my sponsors, my friends, 1080, Monster, Alliance and everyone who put on this event.”

It was a perfect fall day in Ohio, and the cable at Wake Nation was turning away all day. Prior to the Pro Wakeboard champion being crowned, National Champions were named in Girls and Boys, Junior Men, Masters, Open Men, Pro Women, Amateur and Professional wakeskating, as well as obstacles only.

In the Open men’s division, there was a sweep, with Chad Forrest topping every event in the series. And while air tricks took down Fooshee in the finals, in the obstacles only he was as untouchable as ever. Other highlights included 12-year-old Taylor McCullough topping with women’s pro division with a wrapped KGB off the kicker. The Remote Wakeskate team showed up just in time to dominate the pro wakeskating round – Austin Pastura and Yan Lecomte taking 1st and 2nd respectively. Rounding out the podium was Collin Haas, the only wakeskater to make it to all three stops of the tour.

The best part of the Triple Crown series however, is it’s more than just a competition. In between heats, fans and riders alike were able to ride for nearly three hours over the course of the day. There was also entertainment in the form of a DJ and several bands, including The Lions Rampet, who rocked the main stage for nearly two hours.

The final award of the day crowned the overall champion, and with two firsts and a second, Tom Fooshee walked away top dog. “I’ve been in the cable wakeboarding scene for awhile now and this series is exactly what we’ve been waiting for,” he said. “Thanks Alliance, Monster, 1080, Liquid Force, Wake Nation and everyone for putting on a great event!”
