Urgent: Wake Park Worlds Rescheduled Due to Eid Al Adha

From Abu Dhabi, UAE (September 12, 2012) — Eid Al Adha is a religious holiday celebrated by UAE and the muslim world which effects the hosting country of the 2012 WWA Wake Park World Championships hosted by Al Forsan International Sports Resort.

This rotating holiday’s date is set accordingly by another religious holiday known as Ramadan. In 2012, Eid Al Adha has recently been confirmed  for October 25-26, 2012; a date that had been previously set for the 2012 Wake Park World Championships. Out of respect to religious experience of Eid Al Adha and so as to not conflict with other major events, the Abu Dhabi 2012 Wake Park World Championships will be rescheduled for December 6-8, 2012. This reschedule of the 2012 Wake Park World Championships will ensure the local Emirates will have the opportunity to participate and spectate, as well as maintaining maximum international exposure.

From Al Forsan International Sports Resort:

It is our pleasure to host the 2nd WWA Worlds at Al Forsan International Sports Resort.  On the back of last years success the decision to move the date so as not to clash with Eid Al Adha as this would have undoubtedly resulted in lower local participants and spectators as well as made media coverage of the event difficult due to the strict media programming that is part of the Eid Celebrations.

This year will see greater growth on last year as the investment has been made to provide a full set of new features that will add value to the event through greater competition and challenge:  The features have been developed with EXO after many meetings with riders and competition organizers to provide the best selection for the lakes.

The new features that will be added for the 2012 championships are:

  • A Frame Box – 18m x 1.7m x 2.4m
  • Roof Top – 20m x 1.7 . 0.5m
  • Step Up – 20m x 1.7m x 0.5m
  • 2 x Kickers – 5m x 1.1m x 2m
  • The Tube – 20m x 0.75m x 0.75m

This year will see both lakes used for the competition with the Wakeskaters using the original Anti-clockwise cable and the Wakeboarders using the Clockwise larger lake for the best possible action and competition.

“The delay is not perceived as a problem. The WWA believes that our sport is global, and to be truly global we must be able to adapt our sport to embrace all cultures.” States Shannon Starling, President of the WWA “The move was a simple decision out of respect to Eid Al Adha.”

The WWA and Al Forsan are aware that it is possible that some travel arrangements have previously been booked. If you have already made travel accommodations, please email rob@thewwa.com by Thursday, September 13, 2012 to offset endured costs.
