AMATEURS EXCEL ON DAY ONE OF THE 2019 NAUTIQUE USA NATIONAL WAKESURF CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESENTED BY ROCKSTAR ENERGY

Waco, TX (August 30, 2019) – Stop #5 of the Nautique Wakesurf Series, the 2019 Nautique USA National Wakesurf Championships presented by Rockstar Energy greeted the nation’s top amateurs with perfect waves behind the legendary Super Air Nautique G23 at BSR Cable Park in Waco, TX. Setting pace for the rest of the weekend, the competitors were eager to claim their spot in the final rounds with standouts in each division advancing through to the main event. Joining forces with the Nautique WWA Wake Park National Championships presented by Rockstar Energy, competitors and families celebrated the beginning of a great weekend to come at the Friday night Royal Flush Party. The evening provided a laid-back atmosphere for attendees of both events to come together and celebrate the phenomenal amount of athletic talent hosted at BSR Cable Park and Surf Resort this Labor Day weekend. 

“The Nautique USA National Wakesurf Championships is an incredible event bringing together wakesurfers of all ages and abilities,” said Nautique President Greg Meloon. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the best wakesurfers with unique styles of riding battle it out behind the G23 for National titles all weekend long!”

All eyes were on the water as the Girls division kicked off the day shredding behind the Super Air Nautique G23, with Stella Tracy (OK) earning an 81.67 and locking in her spot in the finals, ahead of Chelsea Caywood (FL) in second with 71.67 points in semifinal heat one. Keeping the competition fierce, Canyon Slayden (TX) put on a show with a variety of technical moves taking the top spot in heat two with a score of 70.00, followed by Sofia Caywood (FL) with a score of 61.67. 

Luke Johnson (TX) put down an amazing opening ride in the Boys Semifinal heat one with a heat-winning score of 68.33 sticking an air to finish out his run. Owen Mehringer (TX) followed closely behind grabbing a score of 61.67 locking in his second-place finish, followed by Kyle Bendele (TX) in third with 50.00.

The Jr. Women put it all together behind the award-winning Super Air Nautique G23 with Logan Vaughn (TX) coming out on top with a strong snap landing her a score of 65.00. Following closely behind Vaughn, Payton Gibney (FL) punched her ticket into Sunday’s final with a clean floater for a final score of 50.00. The Jr. Men brought the heat to Texas with huge airs and spins behind the award-winning Super Air Nautique G23. Coleman Vaughn (TX) took the heat throwing multiple ollies and turns for a winning score of 65.00, ahead of Brayden Williams (TX) in second with 46.67.

A crowd favorite, the Adaptive division saw a showing from the Wake for Warriors team ready to throw down and show off what they’ve been working on all summer. Ryan Major (MD) had the crowd going wild with a huge performance showing total use of the wave behind the Super Air Nautique G23 for a final score of 75.00. Carter Hess (FL) took the Adaptive Standing division semifinal heat win with big carves and a nice floater to seal the deal scoring 78.33. Taking second, Kristopher Biggs (TX) had a consistent run making great use of the wave for a score of 70.00, followed by Nate Hamilton (NC) in third with a score of 61.67. 

Looking quite stylish behind the infamous Super Air Nautique G23 surf wave, David Williams (FL) took the win for heat two with a his longboard style throwing a body varial and a shuv for a final score of 81.67, followed by Mark Walser (GA) in second with 75.00 landing back to back 360s, followed by Dayle Cartwright (FL) in third with 53.33 points.

This event has quickly become one of the greatest events of the season and a monumental stop on the Nautique Wakesurf Series, giving competitors one final chance to earn an invitation to the main event of the inaugural Nautique Masters Wakesurf Championships,” said WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson. “It has been a terrific season so far and we couldn’t be more excited to continue enhancing the competitive side of wakesurfing alongside Nautique Boats.”

Day two of the 2019 Nautique USA National Wakesurf Championships presented by Rockstar Energy begins at 10:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, August 31 featuring one Amateur division semifinal rounds, six Amateur division final rounds, Pro Women semifinals, and Pro Men quarterfinals. Competitors are encouraged to attend the Beach Party and Dinner at the BSR Surf Ranch following the competition.
